In the beginning of to Kill a Mockingbird Jem and Scout are two innocent children, they are very curious of Boo Radley and how he lived his life. This is because the Radley's live their lives in seclusion. This causes rumors to sprout up in town and spread like wildfire. Even though they want to see Boo it takes Dill to push them to come close to the Radley house. Dill dares Jem to touch the house, Jem who can't decline a dare, runs up and touches it. Jem can't refuse a dare because he feels that by doing so he would be losing his honor and become less a man.
